Early Monday morning, Homeland Security Investigations agents conducted a search at the Washington, D.C. residence of Representative Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., according to NPR News. The Department of Justice released a statement confirming the operation involved a ‘judicially authorized search warrant’ connected to an ‘ongoing federal investigation.’
The DOJ did not disclose further information regarding the investigation’s nature. In response, Rep. Omar expressed her criticism on social media, accusing federal law enforcement of targeting political opponents. She stated, ‘Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement.’ Omar emphasized her refusal to be silenced.
Images captured by NPR showed Homeland Security Investigations agents around Omar’s residence, with Jackie Rogers, Omar’s spokesperson, labeling the search a ‘raid’ and an ‘outrageous abuse of power.’ Rogers voiced concern over what she perceived as an extreme use of federal authority for political purposes.
Neighbor Sharon Jackson, living across from Omar, reported being awakened at 4:30 a.m. by loud noises during the search. Jackson described agents arriving with a large truck.
This event took place as Rep. Omar prepares for the upcoming midterm elections, where she hopes to secure reelection. Vice President Vance has previously accused Omar of immigration fraud, but Omar denies these allegations.
