Decision Pending on Livestream of Hasan’s Execution

2 hours ago 0

President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he has not yet decided whether the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan will be livestreamed. Hasan, a former Army major, was convicted of killing 13 individuals and injuring 32 others at Fort Hood in 2009.

The Pentagon communicated earlier this week that Hasan’s execution was scheduled to be livestreamed on December 3. Trump expressed that the decision to allow the military’s first execution in over 60 years to be broadcast has not been finalized.

Said Trump, “He was vicious, he was violent.” He acknowledged two perspectives on broadcasting the execution, suggesting that showing it might deter similar acts. Trump stated, “I’ll make a decision, ultimately.” He indicated that he understands what the military prefers, but he will conclude after considering all aspects.

It was reported that Trump approved the use of an Army firing squad for the execution following advice from War Secretary Pete Hegseth. Trump’s comments came a day after being questioned on his approval of the livestreaming decision.

During a Friday interview with CNY Central, Trump noted, “I wasn’t involved in that decision, but I understand the decision.” He mentioned that the military intended the execution to act as a deterrent.

Vice President JD Vance commented on the matter, saying he was uncertain if the execution would be livestreamed, adding that he would not watch it if it were.

If conducted, Hasan’s execution would mark the first U.S. military execution since 1961 and the first military execution by firing squad since 1945.
