Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates recently addressed his previous association with Jeffrey Epstein during an interview with 9News Australia. Reflecting on the time he spent with Epstein, Gates acknowledged that it was a mistake, saying, “I was foolish to spend time with him. I’m one of many people who regret ever knowing him.” Gates revealed that they met in 2011 and had several dinners over a three-year period, believing Epstein could connect him with wealthy individuals willing to donate to global health causes. However, Gates described this as “a dead end.”
The interview follows the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) release of over three million records related to Epstein’s criminal investigation, which included allegations about Gates. Some emails purported that Gates was involved in affairs and sought medication for a sexually transmitted infection, intending to give it to his then-wife, Melinda French Gates, without her knowledge.
Responding to these claims, a spokesperson for Gates previously stated to Fox News Digital, “These claims are absolutely absurd and completely false. The only thing these documents demonstrate is Epstein’s frustration that he did not have an ongoing relationship with Gates and the lengths he would go to entrap and defame.”
Gates’ ex-wife, Melinda French Gates, also addressed the allegations in a separate interview. During an appearance on NPR’s “Wild Card” podcast, she emphasized, “No girl should ever be put in the situation that they were put in by Epstein and whatever was going on with all of the various people around him.” She expressed her personal discomfort, recalling her daughters being the ages of Epstein’s victims and the painful memories that arise from such revelations.
French Gates further clarified that while these matters pertain to her ex-husband, she has moved forward in life, remarking, “I’m in a really unexpected, beautiful place in my life.” She indicated that the accusations are for others, including Gates, to address.
In response to questions about Epstein’s motives, Gates speculated that Epstein might have sought to harm his reputation. Gates reiterated, “Every minute I spent with him, I regret, and I apologize that I did that.” He maintained his position that his interactions with Epstein were limited to dinners, and he denied ever visiting Epstein’s island or meeting any women there.
This ongoing discussion highlights the public and personal scrutiny faced by influential figures like Gates in the wake of Epstein’s criminal activities.
