Investigation into Overdose of Cindy Crawford’s Son Persley Gerber

Detectives are working to identify the source of drugs involved in the overdose of Persley Gerber, Cindy Crawford’s son. Gerber, aged 27, passed away last weekend at a rehab center in Santa Monica. He died on Sunday at the luxury facility.

The Investigation

The Santa Monica Police Department has found no signs of foul play in Gerber’s death. They are also looking into the apparent overdose. According to sources, the investigation has only just begun. An autopsy was performed on Monday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office. However, the cause and manner of death remain undetermined, pending toxicology results. These results are not expected for several weeks.

The Rehab Center

Gerber arrived at the Resolution Living facility in Santa Monica only hours before his death, according to police statements. Resolution Living’s website classifies the facility as a “Mental Health Recovery Residence.” Their program includes partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment for various mental health issues, such as depression, trauma, and addiction. The center also offers dual diagnosis treatment for co-occurring disorders.

Soon after Gerber’s arrival, police reported receiving calls for cardiac arrest and overdose at the facility. Law enforcement responded to Resolutions Living, a seven-bedroom mansion valued at $7.7 million, around 9:35 a.m. Sunday. Resolution Living has not commented on the incident.

In overdose investigations, tracing drug suppliers has become a standard practice. Officials noted a similar approach in the investigation of Hayden Panettiere’s death. Panettiere died from the effects of fentanyl and other drugs. Federal authorities are focusing on Los Angeles to find potential drug sources. Investigators questioned several individuals regarding counterfeit pills that might have caused her death.

Police are also probing the overdose of Matthew Perry, famous from “Friends.” Five individuals faced charges for allegedly supplying Perry with ketamine, which led to his death from the drug.

The specifics of the Santa Monica police’s inquiry into Gerber’s death remain limited. According to attorney Brian Claypool, toxicology reports will be critical in determining any legal accountability. Attorney Glen Jonas mentioned that police scrutiny could extend to the rehab facility’s staffing and emergency response. Historical cases have seen drugs entering rehab centers unlawfully. For instance, a family sued a Riverside sober living center after a woman died of overdose there.

In 2022, Edwin Oliva, sentencing over 33 years, showed how significant these investigations could be. Accused of providing a lethal dose of fentanyl, Oliva gave the drug to a woman indicating it was cocaine, leading to her fatal overdose.
