Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Against Harvard on Harassment Claims

1 hour ago 0

A U.S. District Judge in Massachusetts, Richard Stearns, dismissed a lawsuit against Harvard University on Thursday. The lawsuit alleged that Harvard failed to protect Jewish and Israeli students from harassment.

The Justice Department filed the lawsuit in March. It claimed that, during 2023 and 2024, students faced incidents of harassment. Protesters reportedly blocked students from entering school buildings. Some students felt compelled to wear baseball caps to conceal their yarmulkes, a traditional head covering worn by many observant Jewish men.

Judge Stearns stated that the incidents were too isolated and episodic to substantiate the claim that Harvard was not complying with federal law. The ruling indicates that the alleged actions were not part of a larger pattern of discrimination.

The lawsuit’s dismissal underscores the legal challenge of proving systemic harassment based on limited incidents.
