WNBA star Brittney Griner and her wife Cherelle Griner have decided to end their eight-year marriage. Brittney Griner filed for divorce in Fulton County, Georgia. The couple, married since 2018, has a 2-year-old son. Court papers list July 24 as their separation date, and Brittney described the marriage as ‘irretrievably broken.’
In early 2022, Brittney Griner faced legal issues in Russia. Authorities arrested her for carrying vape cartridges with cannabis oil. She received a nine-year sentence for drug smuggling.
Cherelle Griner worked tirelessly for Brittney’s release during her time in detention. The WNBA All-Star eventually left prison through a U.S.-Russia prisoner exchange in December 2022.
