The Arizona Cardinals have successfully secured one of their key offensive linemen for an extended period. Center Hjalte Froholdt has signed a two-year, $20 million contract extension with the team. This agreement was finalized on Tuesday, August 25.
“Sources: The AZCardinals and C Hjalte Froholdt have agreed to terms on a 2-year, $20M contract extension, keeping him in the fold through the 2028 season.” Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday. “One of their most consistent performances and anchors of their O-lines gets rewarded.”
Froholdt initially entered the NFL as a guard. Drafted in the fourth round in 2019, he transitioned to center and has started six NFL games. He joined the Cardinals in March 2023 on a two-year contract. Since then, he has been a stable force on the offensive line.
Despite Arizona’s offensive line facing challenges over recent years, such as conceding the fifth most sacks in the NFL last season, Froholdt has emerged as a reliable presence. Crucially, he has maintained his fitness, participating in every regular season game for the Cardinals since September 2023.
There remain concerns on the Cardinals’ offensive line. Right tackle Elijah Wilkinson, at 31, is not widely seen as a quality starter. Meanwhile, guard Isaiah Adams faces a crucial season to prove his worth in Arizona’s first team beyond this year. However, securing Froholdt’s services for the next three seasons alleviates a significant concern for the team’s management.
