James Handy, known for roles in films such as “Jumanji” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” was reportedly killed by his girlfriend’s son, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning at a residence in the 19200 block of Erwin Street.
Police received a 911 call with the caller stating: “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.” Upon arriving, officers discovered the 81-year-old actor unconscious in the front yard, suffering from a stab wound to the chest.
Handy, who appeared in a 1995 episode of “NYPD Blue,” was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Authorities identified the suspect as 44-year-old Michael Gledhill from Tarzana. Gledhill reportedly approached officers upon their arrival, admitting to being the person responsible.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that Gledhill lived at the residence with his mother, who was Handy’s girlfriend. He was arrested and charged with murder. His bail has been set at $2 million.
James Handy’s acting career spanned five decades, during which he amassed nearly 150 credits. His work included roles in movies and guest appearances on TV shows such as “The West Wing,” “9-1-1,” and “NCIS: Los Angeles.”
