Washington — The Democratic National Committee has announced the three finalists to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention: Boston, Denver, and Philadelphia. This decision was shared by DNC Chair Ken Martin.

The selection process now transitions to the Democratic National Convention Committee. A DNC official mentioned the process will last several months. Boston, Denver, and Philadelphia surpassed other potential cities, as Atlanta and Chicago were eliminated earlier this year. The Associated Press initially reported these developments.

Martin stated, “The 2028 Democratic National Convention will be an inspiring celebration of our party’s future nominee and a critical step on Democrats’ path towards retaking the White House.” He also acknowledged the strong bids from all three cities and expressed a commitment to continue collaborating with them as the final decision approaches.

The DNC initiated the request for proposals from cities in September 2025 and visited potential sites in April and May. A DNC official provided these details.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens voiced criticism of the decision to exclude his city from the finalist list. In a letter accessed by CBS News Atlanta, he expressed disappointment, suggesting that the DNC may not view Atlanta or Georgia as significant to the Democratic Party’s history or future.

The convention is set for August 7-10, 2028. Previously, the 2024 Democratic National Convention took place in Chicago. Philadelphia hosted the convention in 2016, Boston in 2004, and Denver in 2008, marking pivotal moments in political history, including Barack Obama’s keynote speech and his nomination.
