8 hours ago 0

William Shatner is proving that age is just a number as he gears up to lead a heavy metal band at 95. Renowned for his legendary acting career, Shatner has also carved a musical path over the years. With 11 studio albums under his belt spanning genres like spoken word, rock, progressive rock, Christmas, and country, he now sets his sights on heavy metal.

In a discussion with Fox News Digital, Shatner recalled how he reacted when Cleopatra Records approached him about a heavy metal project. “I said, ‘What the f— is heavy metal?'” he remembered. This humorous reaction became the title of his album, “What the F is Heavy Metal.”

Partnering with author Robert Sharenow, Shatner crafted six original songs. The album includes contributions from over 50 musicians, with “What the F is Heavy Metal” expected to drop this winter. Legendary Queen guitarist Brian May features prominently with a solo on “Rage,” incorporating Dylan Thomas’s famous line from the poem “Do not go gentle into that good night.”

Shatner and his band made their live debut at Riot Fest in Chicago. Dubbed The *uckers, the band performed a mix of original tracks and classic heavy metal covers. Their lineup boasts notable musicians including Marcus Nand and Britt Lightning.

While Shatner explores the vibrant energy of heavy metal, he also tackles a personal health issue with Audien Hearing’s campaign. Experiencing tinnitus and hearing loss from his “Star Trek” days, Shatner’s condition challenges him but hasn’t deterred him from performing. The tinnitus flared up at Riot Fest, yet Shatner remains determined to complete the album.

Reflecting on the album’s creation, Shatner plans to review recordings and assess his performance. The music industry eagerly awaits the release set for this winter with significant contributions from acclaimed artists.
