Veteran pass rusher Von Miller signed a one-year, free-agent contract with the Washington Commanders before the 2025 NFL season. At the time, he had another offer from the Seattle Seahawks, who ultimately celebrated a Super Bowl victory.
While the Seahawks achieved football’s highest honor, Miller and the Commanders faced disappointment. They missed the playoffs with only five regular-season wins. Recently, Miller shared his thoughts on this decision during the “89” podcast with Steve Smith and James Palmer. “Obviously, I picked the wrong team on that one,” Miller confessed.
Miller believed he was aligning himself with a team capable of competing for a Super Bowl title. Prior to his signing, the Commanders had made a strong run to the NFC Championship game with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. In contrast, the Seahawks did not make the playoffs in 2024.
Explaining his choice, Miller said, “For me, with the Washington Commanders, I just felt like Jayden Daniels was poised for another great season,” according to ProFootballTalk. He cited Daniels’ impressive rookie performance and the team’s prior injuries as factors in his decision. “Those are some of the things that you just can’t calculate on teams,” Miller added.
As of now, Miller, 37, remains an unsigned free agent as the 2026 NFL season approaches.
