Uber Offers New Shuttle Services for Soccer Fans Traveling from Stadiums

4 weeks ago 0

Soccer fans facing transportation issues after matches in certain World Cup host cities now have a convenient option to return home. Uber has launched shared shuttle services that will take fans from stadiums near Boston, Dallas, Miami, and New York City. These 50-seat vans are priced at $49 for trips from MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to Manhattan and $45 for other cities. Additionally, Miami offers shuttle services to matches as well.

The introduction of these services aims to ease the travel stress for fans who have already paid high ticket prices. The train ride from Manhattan to MetLife Stadium and back can cost a total of $98, as one-way tickets are not available. In response to public demands, official shuttle buses between Manhattan and MetLife have reduced their fare to $20 round-trip, significantly lower than the initial $80. This change occurred after intervention by New York Governor Kathy Hochul, who arranged for yellow school buses. Depending on the match, about 12,000 to 18,000 bus seats are offered, with a portion set aside for New York State residents.

In Boston, train rides from downtown to Gillette Stadium, roughly 30 miles away, cost $80 round-trip. AT&T Stadium located in Arlington, Texas, 24 miles from Dallas, lacks a direct train connection. Miami fans going to Hard Rock Stadium can arrive by train and bus for about $20, though parking fees start at $175.

Uber is also introducing ‘Uber Max,’ an on-demand service using 14-seat private vans for fans in Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and San Francisco. Details surrounding the cost are scarce, but prices will be slightly higher than the existing Uber XL service, according to Uber spokesman Richard Foord.

Andrew Macdonald, Uber’s president and chief operating officer, highlighted the company’s aim to provide reliable, affordable transportation options that support public transit systems. He emphasized that expanding lower-cost products, such as shared shuttles and group rides, remains a priority.

Fans can book seats on Uber shuttles a few days leading up to each match. Some seats are also saved for last-minute bookings. Drop-off locations for each city are still being determined, but passengers will receive prior notification.
