Training Camp Altercation at Cleveland Browns Practice

A confrontation broke out at Cleveland Browns training camp between pass rusher Jared Verse and rookie tackle Spencer Fano. The incident happened during Saturday’s practice session.

Sports writer Zac Jackson reported that Verse was involved in the scuffle, throwing several punches as the two players hit the ground. Teammates quickly stepped in to separate the pair, and both players returned for the next play.

Spencer Fano, taken by the Browns as the ninth overall pick from Utah in the 2026 NFL Draft, has been highly regarded since joining the team. His impressive play earned him cheers from fans during the next snap, as he effectively defended against Verse.

This disagreement marks the second altercation since the Browns started their training camp. An earlier fight occurred on August 1 involving other team members.

“He’s so good, man. I mean, he’s just really good at helping coach me up,” Fano mentioned about Verse’s mentoring role.

Jared Verse, at 25, joined the team following a major trade that sent Myles Garrett, the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, to the Los Angeles Rams. Prior to the altercation, Chris Easterling from the Akron Beacon Journal noted Verse’s mentoring influence on Fano, assisting him with on-the-field skills.

This year, the Browns aim to better their 5-12 record from last season. However, they face challenges. In addition to recent scrimmages, a competition for the quarterback position is unfolding between last year’s starter Shedeur Sanders and veteran Deshaun Watson, who is returning from an injury.

No matter which quarterback takes the field, Fano’s protection will be crucial in the offensive line. Verse is expected to fill the gap left by Garrett, becoming an essential defensive player.

The Browns have their first preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Saturday, August 15. Their regular season opener will be on Sunday, September 13, facing the Jacksonville Jaguars.
