Tragic Shooting at In-N-Out Burger in Idaho Leaves Three Dead

The tragic shooting at an In-N-Out Burger in Idaho claimed the lives of three individuals, including a restaurant worker and a local man known for his dedication to helping others in their journey to sobriety. Authorities released their names following the incident involving a 24-year-old gunman who acted alone, though his motive remains unclear.

Victims Identified

The victims were Ashley Garibay, 23, from Stockton, California; Dale Schultz, 66, of Salt Lake City; and Christopher Claunch, 59, from Hagerman, Idaho, about 28 miles northwest of Twin Falls. Community members gathered for a candlelit vigil Tuesday night to honor those who lost their lives, showing solidarity and strength during challenging times.

We are strong as a community and we come together in hard times and that’s what this was about, said Teresa Yocham from Twin Falls.

Remembering the Victims

Garibay worked for the burger chain and was celebrated for her vibrant spirit. Her family described her as an adventurous and driven individual who brightened any room she entered. Garibay had aspired to manage her own In-N-Out store.

Claunch, affectionately known as “Toph,” was dedicated to supporting others in overcoming alcohol abuse. Garren Taylor, a friend, credited him for helping countless individuals and highlighted his selfless commitment.

Gregory Glenn from the Madeleine Choir School remembered Schultz as a respected artist and alumni parent. Schultz’s wife, Reinette, was also injured during the shooting.

Aftermath and Investigation

The In-N-Out Burger location, which had recently opened in July, became a scene of chaos on Saturday when the gunman, Chad Williams, ended his life after the attack. Witnesses described the terror inside and outside the restaurant. A customer and her daughters had to take cover upon hearing shots, while others witnessed people fleeing.

An off-duty state trooper and a civilian intervened by firing at Williams, diverting him from the restaurant. One injured during the incident was Steven Pixley, who sustained a gunshot wound affecting his hand. His cousin, Shane Klaas, shared that Pixley remains positive despite losing the use of his fingers due to the injury.

His attitude is wonderful, which is a big part of getting through this, Klaas mentioned, noting Pixley’s efforts to rebuild his life in Twin Falls prior to the attack.

A center has been established by police for those impacted by the shooting to seek support and retrieve personal items left behind. Flags in the city will remain at half-staff until the following week.
