Tensions Rise as Trump Declares Ceasefire with Iran ‘Over’

4 weeks ago 0

You can now listen to Fox News articles. President Donald Trump announced the end of the tentative ceasefire with Iran after intense overnight bombings following Iranian attacks on commercial vessels. During a meeting with Secretary-General Mark Rutte at the NATO Summit in Ankara, Trump stated, “For me, it’s over. I don’t want to deal with them anymore, they’re scum.” He expressed skepticism about further talks, labeling them a waste of time and accusing Iranian leaders of deception and dishonesty.

The recent remarks hint at the potential breakdown of discussions initiated after both nations signed a memorandum of understanding. This agreement sought to restore the smooth transit of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. However, Iran’s recent attacks on at least three commercial vessels prompted the U.S. military to launch strikes on over 80 Iranian targets.

This developing situation sees Trump and NATO Secretary General Rutte meeting on the sidelines of the NATO leaders summit in Ankara, Turkey, as of July 8, 2026.
