Taylor Sheridan, the well-known writer and director, had plans to retire after the success of “Yellowstone.” However, purchasing a second ranch in Texas altered his path. On the “Rodeo Time” podcast, Sheridan, 56, detailed his decision to acquire the Four Sixes Ranch for $330 million, which prevented him from retiring and led him to sign an exclusive contract with Paramount.
Sheridan shared his initial intention to retire after “Yellowstone” and enjoy life with a ranch in Weatherford, which he had paid for in full. He envisioned a relaxed lifestyle, focusing on his horses and hobby herd. However, acquiring the Four Sixes Ranch changed these plans.
Before finalizing the purchase of the ranch, Sheridan ensured that the general manager would continue handling daily operations. Additionally, he confirmed his son’s willingness to manage the ranch in the future. This acquisition shifted his retirement plans significantly.
The Four Sixes Ranch featured in several episodes of “Yellowstone” Season 4. Sheridan first encountered its owner, Anne Marion, while arranging to film there. After Marion’s passing, Sheridan learned that the ranch was not bequeathed to her daughter, and there were plans to sell it off.
Sheridan mentioned, “Before they did that, she had asked if they would try to find someone who would maintain her vision. So, the person they came up with was me.”
Faced with the $330 million price tag, Sheridan humorously admitted, “Well, boys, I’m a little short. I’m about 300 million short.” He then entered a deal with Paramount, which had long pursued him for an exclusive contract.
Once Sheridan was ready for such a deal, he approached Paramount, leading to a successful agreement. Sheridan and a group of investors finalized the ranch purchase on January 21, 2022. Since then, he has developed several other projects like “Mayor of Kingstown,” “1883,” “1923,” “Lioness,” “Landman,” “Tulsa King,” and “The Madison.”
Michael Kelly, a star of “Lioness,” praised Sheridan’s work, expressing admiration for his storytelling talent and intelligence. The appreciation highlights Sheridan’s significant impact in entertainment.
