The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship shifted dramatically on the recent episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Fallon’s Henley and Lainey Reid, known as Fatal Influence, were anticipating a match against Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley to defend their titles. However, unexpected interference altered the night’s events.
Backstage, Flair was attacked by Jade Cargill, Michin, and B-Fab, making her unable to participate in the title match. Alexa Bliss took her place alongside Paxley for the contest at the Cajundome in Lafayette, La.
As the match unfolded, Henley and Reid attempted to secure the win using unsportsmanlike methods. Henley pinned Paxley using the ropes and Reid’s leverage for assistance. However, the referee caught their cheating, preventing the count.
While Reid was distracted, Bliss took advantage of the situation, delivering the Sister Abigail on the floor. This distraction allowed Paxley to focus and execute the Cemetery Drive maneuver on Henley, leading to a decisive pin and victory.
Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley celebrated their new status as WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. Henley and Reid, who held the championship for 83 days, were shocked by the unexpected result. Their reign began in July when they defeated Brie Bella and Paige at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
For Paxley, this victory marks her first championship on the main roster. Her debut in August followed an impressive tenure at NXT, where she held multiple titles. On her debut, Paxley joined Bliss and Flair, countering an attack from Cargill, Michin, and B-Fab, a group still causing trouble despite the new champions’ triumph.
Bliss’s win adds to her record as a five-time tag team champion. Her previous partners included Flair, Asuka, and former WWE star Nikki Cross.
