Swig is bringing the popular dirty soda craze to the suburbs with plans for 13 new locations. The dirty soda, originating in Utah, has become famous for its unique mix of standard sodas like Coke or Dr Pepper with creamer, flavored syrups, and sometimes fruit juice or puree. This combination gives the drink its distinctive cloudy appearance.
The trend, embraced by the Mormon community, offers a nonalcoholic beverage alternative. It gained fame through TV shows and viral social media posts, including mentions by Olivia Rodrigo. The Crest Hill location is set to open in August, with Naperville, Romeoville, and Bolingbrook among other sites scheduled for next year.
Founded in 2010 in St. George, Utah, Swig has expanded from a single drive-thru to over 150 locations across 16 states. Franchisees Derek and Michelle Hincks will manage the suburban outlets. Derek Hincks highlighted Swig’s role in defining the dirty soda market and its capacity to unite people and offer enjoyable experiences.
Swig’s menu also includes Refreshers, Revivers, and various snacks, bolstering its appeal. Other chains, like McDonald’s and Taco Bell, have adopted similar drinks, noting Swig’s success. The chain’s drive-thru-centric model fits well in compact spaces, offering a promising franchise opportunity.
