Study Reveals High Prevalence of Brain Disease in Deceased NFL Players

4 weeks ago 0

Researchers involved in the most comprehensive study to date on the brains of deceased NFL players have found a significant prevalence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). This degenerative brain disease is associated with repeated head impacts, a common occurrence in football.

The study examined the brains of former professional football players who had passed away in recent years. Findings suggest that at least one in four of these players had CTE at the time of their death. Experts believe the actual prevalence of the disease might be even higher.

Ann McKee, director of Boston University’s Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy Center, led the study. Her research highlights the lasting impact of repeated head injuries sustained by athletes during their careers. The study sheds light on the need for increased awareness and preventive measures in contact sports.
