Senator Booker Expresses Concerns Over Platner’s Campaign Controversy

3 weeks ago 0

Senator Cory Booker expressed concerns on Sunday about the impact of Graham Platner’s candidacy in light of recent revelations. Platner, the expected Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in Maine, is reportedly linked to sexual messaging with women outside his marriage.

During an appearance on ABC’s ‘This Week’, Booker, a Democrat from New Jersey, was asked if Platner’s personal issues might affect the Democratic Party’s chances of securing a strategic Senate seat. Booker admitted, ‘Yeah, I have concerns. That guy has questions to answer. And that’s what campaigns are for.’

Booker emphasized the need for Democratic control of the Senate, suggesting it is crucial for checking an ‘out-of-control president’ blamed for rising health care, childcare, and gas costs.

Platner’s progressive campaign has gained traction in Maine, yet his personal history, including controversial statements online, threatens to heighten Democratic anxieties.

This controversy follows reports that Platner’s wife had previously informed his campaign of these messages. Republican campaign officials have used this information to attack Platner, distributing reports highlighting the issue.

Among Democrats, Booker’s remarks were notably cautious. As a former presidential candidate and possible contender for 2028, his views carry weight.

The Platner campaign did not immediately respond to inquiries regarding Booker’s comments.

Senator Andy Kim, also a Democrat from New Jersey, stated his focus was not on the Maine race and acknowledged he had never met Platner. On CNN’s ‘State of the Union’, Kim remarked, ‘I will work with whoever the people of Maine elect. But I hope that they elect somebody who will stand up to this president.’
