Representative Max Miller’s reelection campaign in Ohio’s 7th Congressional District has become more complex following a key deadline. Despite mounting pressure from within his own party to resign, he remains on the ballot due to election law constraints.

Miller faces domestic abuse allegations from his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, which he has denied. Notable Republicans have urged him to withdraw to protect the party’s hold on the seat. Miller opted not to step aside before the deadline that would allow state Republicans to nominate an alternate candidate, making his candidacy effectively locked.

Rising Calls for Resignation

Republican criticism of Miller is increasing. Indiana Senator Jim Banks advised that Miller should resign if the allegations prove true. Banks expressed concern about the impact on the Republican-majority House and stressed the seriousness of the accusations.

Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno, Emily Moreno’s father, criticized Miller’s character for public office. GOP Ohio Senator Jon Husted supported calls for Miller to resign, suggesting he should focus on his daughter’s best interests.

Montana Senator Tim Sheehy labeled Miller a “degenerate sociopath” following accusations of petty acts involving his daughter. Sheehy warned that Miller’s continued candidacy could risk losing the House seat.

House Ethics Committee Investigation

With national attention on the issue, Republican leaders are concerned that Miller’s controversy may jeopardize their chances in what was once seen as a solid district. President Trump cautioned Miller about the reelection prospects but deferred judgment pending further investigation.

The House Ethics Committee has started an investigation into the allegations against Miller. Miller has called for an ethics review, claiming he has nothing to hide. House Speaker Mike Johnson emphasized the seriousness of the allegations but stated that leadership awaits the committee’s findings.

Miller denies the allegations, attributing them to disputes from his divorce and custody battle, and pledges to continue his campaign. No criminal charges have been filed against him.

Now, with no chance to replace Miller on the ballot, Republican strategists acknowledge the challenges in maintaining the House majority with his presence as the GOP nominee.
