Rams Overcome Australia Setback with Victory Against Giants

The loss abroad had raised questions about whether the Rams should have adopted a similar travel strategy to that of the 49ers. McVay, reflecting on the experience, admitted, “We have the right people. Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn. And sometimes you have a dumb coach making bad travel choices.” The candid remark coincided with the Rams refocusing their aspirations as Super Bowl contenders.

McVay’s dissatisfaction with the Australian experience lingered. After the game, he criticized his own preparation and expressed a desire to avoid future games in Australia, not due to the atmosphere but because of the travel itinerary he endorsed. The team endured a 16-hour flight, opting not to acclimate to the time zone and playing the 49ers soon after landing.

The 49ers, also based on the West Coast, chose to arrive six days ahead for acclimation. This strategy proved effective; they defeated the Rams 27-7. Despite this, McVay’s frustration has lessened since the win over the Giants, softening the memory of that loss.
