3 weeks ago 0

Alec Baldwin faced intense backlash for a recent tribute to the late actor Sam Neill, who passed away on Monday. Critics on social media accused Baldwin of being ‘self-centered’ in his nearly three-minute Instagram video.

Baldwin began the video by expressing his shock over Neill’s death, saying, ‘I just wanted to come on here quickly and say how stricken I was to learn of the death of Sam Neill.’

When I did ‘The Hunt for Red October,’ we shot in ’89, it came out in 1990, a long time ago, he continued, before reminiscing about filming the movie and mentioning the cast.

He concluded the video by returning to Neill, who played Captain Vasili Borodin in the film. Baldwin expressed his admiration, stating, ‘That is one of the few movies I have ever done where I remember the whole movie.’

Anyway, oh my God. My God. Sam Neill. My love to his family, My love to his family, Baldwin added.

Followers criticized Baldwin for the tribute, saying he focused more on himself than on Neill. Comments on Instagram highlighted these sentiments, with one user stating, ‘Omg I’m sorry I thought you were paying respects to Sam Neil. I didn’t realize it was all about you.’

Despite the criticism, others defended Baldwin, appreciating what they interpreted as a genuine tribute. One follower commented, ‘You always talk so calmly, and compassionately, and so kindly about all the people you have worked with.’

Sam Neill passed away at the age of 78, shortly after recovering from cancer. In a statement, Neill’s family shared their sadness and highlighted that he was surrounded by family when he died.

Tributes from fellow actors followed. Nicole Kidman, who starred with Neill in ‘Dead Calm,’ expressed her sorrow and described Neill as ‘one of the greats.’ Kidman remembered Neill as charming and kind.

Similarly, Toni Collette shared her emotional tribute on Instagram, recalling her time with Neill. She described Neill as ‘an incredible actor’ and ‘a beautiful, decent gentleman.’

Collette included a heartfelt message, saying, ‘When I think of Sam I always see him giggling. It is a terribly sad day. Rest in peace, dear Sam.’
