Prince Harry is seeking to mend fences with the royal family. In a video interview conducted by GQ’s Zach Baron in September, released Tuesday, Harry expressed remorse over his strained relationships with his father King Charles III and brother Prince William. During the interview, the Duke of Sussex, 42, acknowledged the familial tensions, noting the universal nature of sibling disagreements and broken relationships between family members.

Harry discussed his hopes for reconciliation, stating, “I want it to work out. With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile.” He emphasized the importance of letting go of past grievances, saying, “Scars stick around forever. But what your perception is, and what your mindset is to those things that have happened, letting go of the past.”

Following the interview, some speculated that Harry’s comments were a critique of William. However, Harry’s representative clarified, stating the remarks were not directed at any family member.

The rift between Harry and his family has been long-standing. In 2018, following Harry’s marriage to Meghan Markle, tensions with William appeared to grow. Harry admitted in 2019 that he and William were on “different paths.” The situation escalated after Harry and Markle left their roles as senior royals in early 2020, eventually settling in California. In a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, they voiced grievances against the royal institution, including claims of racism and a lack of support.

Despite the challenges, Harry has expressed love for his family and a desire to repair relationships. He acknowledged feeling “let down” by Charles and has highlighted reconciliation as a priority. During his book tour for “Spare” in 2023, he reiterated the theme of forgiveness and accountability.

Harry’s relationship with Charles shows signs of improvement. The two have reportedly reconnected since Harry, Markle, and their children returned to the U.K. Visits in 2025 to meet with Charles and Camilla suggest progress. However, tension remains with William, who has not publicly addressed the estrangement.
