The Chicago police have started a death investigation after 54-year-old Maria Delgado died in a hospital following injuries from a fall and an alleged domestic battery. Delgado had been in the hospital since October 9 after attending an unspecified event where she fell.
During her transport to the hospital, an argument erupted with a 58-year-old man, leading to him allegedly striking Delgado in the face on the 3900 block of West 58th Street in the West Elsdon neighborhood. Authorities arrested the man at the hospital and charged him with a misdemeanor count of domestic battery.
Delgado succumbed to her injuries last Saturday afternoon at Stroger Hospital. The Cook County medical examiner’s office stated that the cause of death is pending further police investigation and additional studies.
The investigation, undertaken by detectives from the Wentworth Area, is ongoing, according to statements by the police on Tuesday evening.
