The City of Philadelphia is introducing a new initiative aimed at assisting first-time homebuyers. Known as One Philly Mortgage, this program provides support to buyers with average credit scores who seek 30-year mortgages.
Mayor Cherelle Parker explained that this plan targets individuals with credit scores as low as 620. She noted, “We want the banking industry to consider these borrowers, understanding that the risk will be shared with the city itself.”
This move by Philadelphia serves to bridge the gap for those who might be overlooked by traditional lending due to their credit history, enabling more residents to become homeowners. The program partially backs the loans to incentivize banks to engage with this borrower segment.
