Carolyn Hax Advises on Managing Relationship Resentment

7 minutes ago 0

In a recent episode of the relationship advice podcast “Life Hax,” Carolyn Hax, a seasoned columnist, shares her insights on dealing with relationship stress. Joined by co-host Shane O’Neill, they tackle a listener’s concern regarding a financially unstable sibling.

The listener is in their 60s and has always supported their sister, who lacks savings. None of her sister’s friends provide support, leaving only the listener to shoulder the burden. Carolyn advises that giving can become a source of anger if it’s done out of obligation and suggests reducing help to preserve the relationship.

Carolyn emphasizes that cutting off assistance before resentment worsens can be beneficial. She says, “Giving somebody less is a gift if you’re just going to be angry about giving it.” For more advice, listen to the “Life Hax” podcast available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, or other platforms.

Data recently released by the U.S. Census Bureau shows a decline in the number of people working from home. The work-from-home rate dropped to 13% last year from a high of 18% in 2021. Despite the decrease, current rates remain higher than pre-pandemic levels.

Washington, which had a high of one-third of workers remotely working in 2021, saw a significant drop to 17.4%. However, Austin and Denver lead among metro areas with over 20% of employees working from home.

The information stems from the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, offering comprehensive insights into the nation’s demographics and lifestyle changes.

D.C. Council member Robert C. White Jr. plans to resign to stay eligible for Congress. Expected to succeed Eleanor Holmes Norton as the District’s delegate to the U.S. House, White is stepping down from his council position to comply with eligibility requirements.

A 1970 law bars candidates from holding paid public office on election day. Although White believed he could resign by December 2, a recent opinion from the D.C. attorney general urged earlier resignation to avoid jeopardizing his congressional run.

This marks the end of White’s 10-year tenure as a council member.
