The Orland Park Village Board has approved a significant expansion to enhance healthcare facilities in the area. On Monday, the board gave the green light to a $275 million cancer office and parking structure, set to expand Northwestern Medicine’s campus near Centennial Park.
Community Benefits
Board member John Lawler expressed optimism about the project’s impact on local residents. He emphasized the convenience it will offer, particularly to the aging population, who will no longer need to travel downtown for treatment. This development promises to be a valuable asset to Orland Park.
Funding and Facilities
Northwestern Medicine secured a substantial $225 million donation from the St. George Foundation. This partnership aims to enhance the healthcare options available to residents in the southwest region. The new facility plans to provide a range of services, including infusion stations, diagnostic imaging, and radiation treatment.
A spokesperson for the hospital mentioned that more information would be forthcoming in a few weeks. Besides the new cancer center, the project will also expand existing services.
Approval Process and Construction Plans
According to Koczwara, Northwestern is awaiting final state-level approvals, expected in September. Construction is projected to commence in the fall, with completion anticipated in 2029.
Structural Modifications
The board approved adjustments, permitting the building to be constructed 30 feet from existing wetlands. The maximum building height has been increased from 50 feet to 51 ½ feet, and the requirement for a landscape buffer on the east side has been waived.
Future Prospects
Mayor Jim Dodge remarked that the adjustments were minor and justified as an incentive for development. With this new cancer center and the University of Chicago Medical Center’s planned expansion, Orland Park aims to solidify its reputation for offering high-quality medical care.
