Frank Beard, the drummer for the iconic band ZZ Top, has passed away at the age of 77. The band confirmed his death to CBS News, noting that he was in hospice care at the time, surrounded by family at his ranch in Richmond, Texas. His death occurred on Monday, though the exact cause has not been disclosed.
Formed in 1969, ZZ Top included Frank Beard alongside guitarist Billy Gibbons and bassist Dusty Hill. In 2021, Hill passed away and was succeeded by Elwood Francis, his longtime bass tech, as per his request. Reflecting on Beard’s passing, Gibbons shared his sentiments in a social media statement, expressing the loss of a close friend and collaborator. Gibbons highlighted Beard’s innovative drumming and described him as a true son of Texas. Beard’s unique backbeat played a significant role in the band’s success.
