U.S. Central Command Visits USS Lincoln

The top U.S. military commander in the Middle East recently visited the USS Lincoln, an aircraft carrier stationed in the Arabian Sea. This visit marked the end of a regional tour by the U.S. Central Command chief. The Lincoln has been engaged in the U.S. war effort against Iran and has been at sea for more than 240 consecutive days. Adm. Brad Cooper commended the crew, describing this deployment as one of the most operationally significant in recent times.

Adm. Cooper also visited several other countries in the Middle East to meet with military and civilian leaders, including Bahrain, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Hamas and U.S. Officials in Egypt for Ceasefire Talks

A Hamas delegation, led by Khalil al-Hayya, visited Cairo for discussions about a ceasefire in Gaza. The meetings included Egyptian intelligence officials, with the focus on implementing U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan to alleviate Gaza’s difficulties and begin reconstruction. Despite efforts, tension remains due to Israel’s stance on territorial control.

U.S. negotiator Jared Kushner also met with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi in Egypt. Discussions underlined the need for both Israel and Hamas to adhere to their ceasefire obligations.

Israel Targets Hezbollah Commanders

In a weekend strike, Israel’s military targeted two commanders of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. This included an attack that reportedly killed Abu Hassan Alaa, involved in assaults against Israeli soldiers, and Ali Samir Al-Haj Hassan. Both strikes are the most lethal since the June truce with Hezbollah, an Iran-backed group.

Despite a U.S.-mediated framework agreement, Hezbollah has rejected direct negotiations over disarmament. The ongoing conflict continues to destabilize the region.

Qatar Allegedly Holds Iranian Pilots

Iran claimed that Qatar is detaining three of its pilots from aircraft downed in March. Iran’s military requests permission for an investigation, though Qatar denies these allegations. This is the first case Iran has presented in the ongoing conflict, as Tehran has consistently criticized regional neighbors hosting U.S. military bases.

Recent Israeli Strike in Gaza

Israel conducted an airstrike in Khan Younis, Gaza, injuring five, including a child. The strike targeted a member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Although a ceasefire has reduced major hostilities since October, Israeli attacks have killed over 1,262 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
