The Fall Wedding Dilemma for College Football Fans

1 hour ago 0

The arrival of fall signals the start of the college football season. Although it may not seem like it while summer activities continue, fall is approaching. This season is not only known for football, but also as a popular time for weddings. The weather becomes more comfortable, the scenery more vibrant, and the photo opportunities ideal.

For many college football enthusiasts, however, fall weddings present a conflict. They face a tough choice between attending weekend events and watching the games they love. This tension has persisted for years, as fans struggle to balance social obligations with their passion for the sport.

“Fall weddings are the bane of our existence.”

Some fans have pushed back against the trend of avoiding fall weddings, dismissing it as a gimmick. Despite criticism, many committed fans refuse to attend such events during the season. They view their Saturdays in the fall as sacred, reserved for college football.

When my wife and I got married, we chose August to avoid scheduling conflicts. My experience reflects that of many fans who prioritize the sport. An example is an October wedding I attended, where I felt the sting of missing a significant game.

Critics argue fans should ‘grow up’. Yet, maintaining priorities can be seen as a mature decision. If there’s a scheduling conflict, most prefer to be home or among fellow fans. Watching a game on a phone at a wedding doesn’t compare.

While weddings are special, some recognize the importance of balancing passions. Arranging weddings on non-game days or Sundays may appease both sports and social commitments. Although NFL fans may be upset, it’s often a workable compromise.

Ultimately, those who choose fall weddings should not be surprised if some attendees can’t attend due to high-profile games. Most fans will still send a gift or acknowledge the event, hoping to balance their love for football with social obligations.
