LeBron James has concluded his much-discussed free agency by signing a two-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. This marks the start of his historic 24th season in the NBA.
James considered offers from various NBA teams before making his decision. Tyrese Maxey, who shares the same agent, Rich Paul, reached out with texts and calls. Maxey noted that persuading James required minimal effort.
“Not many. It wasn’t a lot of convincing. Couple phone calls, couple texts,” Maxey stated, as reported by team insider John Clark of NBC. “We’re good friends. Now, I guess we’re friends. He’s a lot older than me, but I guess we’re friends.”
Besides James, the 76ers acquired five-time All-Star Jaylen Brown through a major trade with the Boston Celtics. The team’s projected starting lineup features James, Maxey, Brown, Joel Embiid, and VJ Edgecombe.
Maxey recently completed his most successful NBA season, averaging a personal best of 28.3 points per game in the 2025-26 campaign. As a 25-year-old guard, he was the second top scorer in the Eastern Conference, following closely behind Brown’s 28.7 points per game.
The 76ers are seen as one of the strongest contenders in the Eastern Conference for the upcoming season.
