Simon Cowell’s fiancée, Lauren Silverman, recently shared her experiences of finding out she was pregnant while still married. In an interview on “Happy Mum: The Podcast,” the 48-year-old discussed the end of her marriage to businessman Andrew Silverman and the subsequent media frenzy.
The End of a Marriage
Silverman explained the emotional turmoil she faced when she discovered her pregnancy with Cowell’s now 12-year-old son, Eric, during her marriage. She stated, “There are so many emotions that went with that, because it was the end of my marriage, obviously. It was one of the hardest times of my life.” Despite her struggles, Silverman does not regret her choices but wishes events had unfolded differently.
Public Relationship and Divorce
Cowell and Silverman’s relationship became public in 2013 after news of the pregnancy surfaced. The revelation prompted her then-husband to file for divorce. Silverman recalled the challenges of being in the spotlight, saying her primary concern was shielding her son, Adam. She mentioned, “I was just trying to get through it and just try to wake up every day and not, I don’t know, fall apart.”
Dealing with the Media
The intense media coverage made Silverman’s pregnancy difficult to enjoy. “Everywhere I went … it was the way that people would look at me. I was on the cover of every magazine,” she reflected. Despite the criticisms, Silverman realized Cowell was “the person I wanted to spend my life with.”
Moving Forward
Throughout the ordeal, Silverman recognized people’s negative views and didn’t blame them. She described her approach: “I’ve got to suck it up and get on with it. And whatever’s coming at me, I deserve it.” Over time, she worked on forgiving herself, stating, “I have done whatever I feel I need to do to make peace with the situation.”
Life Changes and Reflections
Silverman’s son was born in February 2014, marking a new chapter in her life with Cowell. She noted how becoming a father profoundly impacted Cowell, with him expressing that his son “saved him” from a “downward spiral.” Cowell admitted this period was transformative, saying, “It made me happy again.”
