Larry David, known for co-creating ‘Seinfeld’ and starring in ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm,’ had an unsettling experience on June 12, 1994, the day Nicole Brown Simpson was murdered. David recounts this moment in his authorized biography, ‘Emperor Of Nothing: The Making of Larry David,’ penned by Blake J. Harris.
That morning, David, his wife Laurie, daughter Cazzie, and comedy writer Alan Zweibel with his wife Robin were dining at the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles. Zweibel recalls the day vividly as it coincides with the tragic evening when O.J. Simpson was accused of the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. Simpson was later acquitted.
“[We] saw him in the dining room the day of the murder!” David recalls in the biography.
Zweibel shares he encountered Simpson twice that day. Initially, during breakfast, Simpson greeted him by his name. Later, they crossed paths at a middle school dance recital, where Simpson humorously remarked on the coincidence of their meeting twice.
Zweibel recounts past interactions with Simpson, noting their mutual acquaintances and shared social events. He humorously reflects that hindsight suggested he should have advised Simpson to stay in that night.
Simpson had been married to Nicole since 1985, divorcing in 1992. The tragic murder of Nicole and Goldman was a significant event that drew immense public attention.
In the same biography, Larry David reflects on his early career struggles as a comedian in New York City. Known for walking off stage during sets and having a short temper, he faced challenges with audiences. David humorously admits to being labeled ‘Least Likely to Accomplish Anything’ in high school. Despite a string of unusual jobs, he resisted his mother’s wish for him to become a postal worker. He amusingly explains that while he might handle rain and snow, hail would have been a deal-breaker.
