The ‘Outnumbered’ panel delves into the defrauding of Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce in a reputed $35 million Ponzi scheme. They further discuss a Government Accountability Office report highlighting taxpayer fraud, which costs up to $1.5 billion daily. This includes scrutiny over expenses related to California’s high-speed rail project.

In other legal news, former Disney actor Erik von Detten faces a lawsuit from an elderly Californian couple. Sheila and Norman Greenberg accuse him of convincing them to invest over $2.1 million in overpriced gold coins. The lawsuit, filed against von Detten and his past employer, Rosland Capital, alleges financial elder abuse, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, constructive fraud, and conversion.

“They believed that von Detten was taking care of them.” Court documents state.

The Greenbergs claim Rosland targeted senior citizens through aggressive marketing strategies. After contacting the company during 2020, they entrusted von Detten with over $2 million of their retirement savings. They subsequently purchased more than $999,000 in gold coins, only to find out the coins were sold at a 60% premium.

Following initial transactions with immediate losses, the couple alleges von Detten persuaded them to invest further. Additional purchases in November 2020 led to total losses exceeding $787,000 in value. Their coins were allegedly stored at Delaware Depository, adding maintenance fees to their losses.

In 2021, they used family trust funds to acquire nearly $200,000 worth of other gold coins, ending in valuation discrepancies of over $114,000. The Greenbergs didn’t realize the extent of overcharging until 2025, seeking help from AI to uncover unethical business practices by Rosland.

The lawsuit against von Detten includes demands for at least $900,000 in compensatory damages, plus other legal costs and punitive damages. A response from von Detten regarding the lawsuit remains unavailable.
