An incident at the New York Knicks’ championship parade has led to a former JPMorgan Chase executive facing fines. Angie Báez was seen on video taking a special Knicks-themed trash can from the streets of Manhattan, which resulted in her losing her job.
The New York City Department of Sanitation reported that Báez returned the can nearly a week after the parade. The event celebrated the Knicks’ win against the San Antonio Spurs, securing their first NBA championship in 53 years. Thousands of fans attended the celebration on June 18, 2026.
“These fines are the maximum allowed by law for first offenses,” a department spokesperson said.
Báez received two fines: $75 for littering and $100 for disrupting sanitation operations. These fines are the highest permitted for a first offense. The video of Báez spread quickly on social media after the parade.
The New York Post identified Báez as a JPMorgan Chase executive previously involved in diversity and commerce leadership roles. After the incident, the company confirmed her departure.
JPMorgan Chase did not provide further details about her exit.
The New York Police Department has no related complaint report on file. The NYPD spoke about the incident but did not find it significant enough for filing.
The Sanitation Department reported no specific cleanup cost for the trash from the basket. It highlighted that the trash dumped was minimal compared to the 75,260 pounds of waste collected after the parade.
The department humorously addressed the incident in a social media post, noting that Knicks-themed baskets are available for purchase online.
