During the NFL offseason, teams often take a break from mid-June to mid-July, marking a period of limited activity. However, football fans are gearing up for training camp set to begin in three weeks, followed by the preseason and the regular season starting the week of September 7.
We have conducted training camp previews and examined key position battles across all 32 teams. The next focus in our offseason series is identifying rookies from each team who might secure a starting position during training camp. Today’s spotlight is on the Kansas City Chiefs.
Kansas City’s 2026 Draft Class
- Mansoor Delane, CB, Round 1
- Peter Woods, DT, Round 1
- R Mason Thomas, DE, Round 2
- Jadon Canady, S, Round 4
- Emmett Johnson, RB, Round 5
- Cyrus Allen, WR, Round 5
- Garrett Nussmeier, QB, Round 7
The Chiefs made a strategic move by trading up to secure Mansoor Delane, a unanimous All-American and first-team All-SEC standout. After trading away Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams, the competition for Kansas City’s CB1 role is intense. Among contenders are Kristian Fulton, Nohl Williams, and L’Jarius Sneed.
Delane is the favorite to claim the starting cornerback position. His remarkable performance in college football last season shows promise. At 22 years old, Delane restricted completions to 40 percent, with just 14 catches on 35 targets. He allowed only 165 yards, no touchdowns, and managed a 31.3 passer rating in coverage.
Additionally, Delane excelled at creating turnovers, accumulating eight interceptions, four forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery over four seasons at LSU and Virginia Tech. With the fierce quarterback lineup the Chiefs are expected to face, including names like Bo Nix, Justin Herbert, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford, Joe Burrow, Drake Maye, and Brock Purdy, a strong secondary is crucial.
Expect Mansoor Delane to emerge from training camp as Kansas City’s leading cornerback.
