Indianapolis Colts’ Josh Downs Requests Trade Amid Team Overhaul

2 minutes ago 0

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs has requested a trade. According to ESPN, the 25-year-old did not deny the report.

When speaking to reporters, Downs stated, “I’m open to whatever. Whatever comes my way, comes my way and we go from there.”

Recent changes in the Colts’ roster may have influenced Downs’ decision. The team traded Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks for third- and fifth-round draft picks and sent DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers for a fourth-round pick. The Colts are in a rebuilding phase after firing general manager Chris Ballard and losing to the Minnesota Vikings.

Indianapolis does not own its first-round selection in next year’s draft after trading with the New York Jets last year.

Josh Downs has played for the Colts since they selected him in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of North Carolina. This season, he has caught 26 passes for 307 yards in seven games. Throughout his career, Downs recorded 224 receptions for 2,447 yards and 11 touchdowns in 54 games. He has also returned punts, averaging 9.4 yards per return.

The trade deadline is Nov. 10. If the Colts approve Downs’ request, he could play elsewhere soon. If not, he will play against the Jacksonville Jaguars with the Colts, potentially for the last time.
