Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown’s season has ended, yet his conflict with ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith is intensifying. Over the weekend, Brown addressed Smith during a livestream after the sports commentator had told the NBA guard to ‘be quiet.’ This followed Brown’s accusation that NBA referees had an ‘agenda’ against him, particularly after the Philadelphia 76ers made a comeback from a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Celtics.
Jaylen Brown, while addressing his fans online, lashed out at Smith for suggesting he should remain silent. Brown questioned Smith’s credibility, accusing him of not using his platform for true journalism but rather for creating clickbait content. Brown expressed hopes that Smith’s retirement might lead to a movement towards real journalistic integrity.
In one instance, Smith had commented on Brown not featuring Jayson Tatum in his livestream, a remark Brown dismissed as clownish. Despite the controversies, the Celtics had a surprisingly strong season, outperforming expectations. With Tatum sidelined due to an injury, Brown played in 71 games, averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists, shouldering much of the team’s responsibilities.
This season, the Celtics finished with a record of 56-26, securing the Atlantic Division title. Brown attributes their success to leadership and team chemistry, factors he believes Smith cannot grasp.
Stephen A. Smith had previously implied that Brown should remain quiet unless he intended to provoke a trade by the Celtics. Brown’s criticism of Smith continues to highlight their ongoing public feud.
