IndyCar champions Joseph Newgarden, Kyle Kirkwood, and commentator Will Buxton recently appeared on ‘Fox & Friends’ in Times Square. Their goal was to build excitement for the much-awaited Freedom 250 Grand Prix. Set in Washington, D.C., this event promises thrilling high-speed racing at the nation’s capital.
The Freedom 250 Grand Prix represents one of the most significant events for IndyCar this year. It provides an opportunity for cars to speed past some of America’s most iconic landmarks. As part of the NTT IndyCar Series, the Indianapolis 500 traditionally stands out. Known as “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” it remains a significant focus. However, the Freedom 250 aims to offer a unique spectacle on the streets of Washington, D.C.
“It’s going to be absolutely incredible — a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see IndyCars racing around the nation’s capital,” said Buxton. “Auto racing has been central to America’s history, and this event celebrates the country’s 250th birthday.”
Josef Newgarden of Team Penske and Kyle Kirkwood of Andretti Global both shared their excitement about the race. Newgarden, a two-time Indianapolis 500 and series champion, emphasized the unique nature of this event. “I don’t know when we’re going to have another opportunity to race in the nation’s capital,” Newgarden stated. His goal is to seize this occasion to excel and represent his country.
Meanwhile, Kirkwood highlighted the extensive preparations underway for the street circuit. The iconic course passes the U.S. Capitol Building, providing a visually stunning backdrop. “Suites are incredible; with 100,000 people attending over both days, it’s going to be awesome,” Kirkwood said.
The action begins on Saturday morning with practice. Qualifying will take place early in the evening. The Grand Prix starts at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, with pre-race coverage starting at 11:30 a.m. on FOX.
