Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow during Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed the injury, making it the second time in two seasons Daniels has faced this setback. His previous injury kept him out for four weeks late in the regular season.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported additional testing for Daniels was scheduled for Monday. In the meantime, the team plans to rely on Marcus Mariota in their upcoming Week 3 game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Quinn expressed his disappointment, stating, “Once I know an update that we can move forward with, then I’ll give you that. Man, are we bummed for him. He was really playing his (expletive) off. We will rally so hard around Marcus until Jayden’s back. That’s what we talked about as a team.”
Daniels sustained the injury on the last play of the first half. Replays highlighted the severity of the situation, prompting a strong reaction from analyst Tom Brady.
Quinn reflected on the play, saying, “At the 1-yard line, we need touchdowns.” On the third-and-goal play with three seconds left in the second quarter, he remarked, “I don’t regret that call. Any time someone’s injured, the ‘what if’ game is played. But I don’t think this is one of those times for me. I hate that it happened. … I wasn’t hesitant about that spot. We’re going to be aggressive in this game against their offense. So I don’t regret that. Obviously, the outcome sucks. But it wasn’t a ‘what if’ or ‘I wish I had done something differently.’”
Last season, Daniels started only seven games and faced multiple injuries including a knee sprain, a hamstring issue, and the previous elbow injury.
