Israeli President Criticizes New York Mayor, Highlights U.S.-Israel Relations

Israeli President Isaac Herzog expressed concerns about the rhetoric of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, accusing him of antisemitic behavior that endangers New Yorkers. In an interview with Fox News Digital, Herzog called Mamdani’s comments on social media about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu highly offensive and dangerous.

Mamdani’s controversial video called Netanyahu a “war criminal.” Herzog emphasized that such statements are unacceptable in New York, a city significant to Israelis. He warned about the potential long-term consequences of Mamdani’s actions.

Herzog also discussed the threat posed by Iran, describing the regime’s actions as destabilizing on a global scale. Iran’s investment in worldwide terror, missile programs, and nuclear ambitions present significant challenges, he said. Herzog praised the joint efforts of the United States and Israel against Iran, highlighting the military operations aimed at curbing Iranian aggression.

The Israeli President accentuated strong U.S.-Israel ties, underscoring the shared values and deep support provided by former President Donald Trump. Herzog credited Trump with advancing diplomatic initiatives, including the relocation of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem and recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

Herzog expressed concerns about declining American support for Israel, attributing it to disinformation campaigns on social media. He invited young Americans to visit Israel to understand its contributions in innovation and various fields.

He addressed the recent U.S. defense policy bill passage as a “red light” in American-Israeli relations. Despite this, he affirmed that bipartisan support remains, recalling his memorable address to Congress marking 75 years of Israeli independence.

Herzog reflected on the evolving Israeli society post the deadly Oct. 7 attack, encouraging dialogue about security and future strategies. He also touched on prominent U.S. political figures like the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, acknowledging his support for Israel.

On interfaith relations, Herzog detailed initiatives to strengthen bonds with Christian communities in Israel. He mentioned interactions with religious leaders like the Pope and emphasized the importance of protecting Christian communities, especially in regions facing hostility.

Herzog criticized the handling of International Criminal Court’s Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan’s dismissal, asserting that Khan’s actions were attempts to divert attention from allegations against him.

Concluding, Herzog spoke on a potential breakthrough in peace efforts in Gaza, facilitated by the U.S, which includes disarmament plans for Hamas. He reiterated the need for an improvement in life conditions for the people of Gaza.
