Iran’s Preparation for U.S. Invasion Amid Rising Tensions

A senior Iranian official claims Tehran has long been preparing for a potential U.S. ground invasion. This comes as new explosions occur during the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflicts. Seyed Mohammad Marandi, an Iranian American academic often labeled as a regime advocate, mentioned Iran recently launched a new missile. He emphasized Iran’s efforts in decentralizing and burying its military arsenal underground to endure prolonged U.S. air attacks.

Marandi stated, “The Americans may plan an invasion. I’m not saying it will happen soon, but they have plans.” He shared these insights in an interview with political analyst Glenn Diesen. The focus of Iranian strikes has been on Bahrain and Kuwait, where they perceive U.S. assets as strategically positioned for an invasion.

The conflict has extended across western and southern Iran. In response, Iran launched missile and drone attacks targeting U.S.-related facilities in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Jordan confirmed intercepting ten missiles, while Kuwait reported casualties and damage to infrastructure. In retaliation, the U.S. conducted airstrikes on bridges and other strategic sites.

The city of Khorramabad in Lorestan province experienced multiple explosions. Iranian state media attributed these to U.S. missiles launched from Kuwaiti bases. Khorramabad hosts vital military installations, such as the Imam Ali Missile Base, which Israel targeted during its 2025 campaign.

Marandi described Iran’s resilient strategy involving a subterranean network. “Iran does not store missiles in vulnerable locations. When needed, they are deployed, used, and then relocated,” he explained. This tactic prevents large-scale losses in case of attacks.

A recent memorandum of understanding for a ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran has ended due to escalating conflicts, primarily around the Strait of Hormuz. Despite this, President Trump ordered renewed airstrikes, and there is talk of a potential U.S. ground campaign.

Iran continues to build up its military arsenals, introducing new weapons despite the agreements. Marandi claimed, “They have been preparing for a land war for decades.” He believes a U.S. ground operation could be beneficial for Iran, potentially leading the conflict to end on Iranian terms.

Marandi concluded that Iran perceives the U.S. entering a land invasion as a direct method to resolve the conflict to their advantage.
