Authorities in New Jersey are investigating the circumstances surrounding the stabbing death of a woman in her Somerville home. Alyne Espinal, aged 46, was found with several lacerations on her chest, neck, and thigh, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her husband, 55-year-old Ignacio Espinal, was apprehended on Tuesday in West New York, New Jersey. He faces charges of first-degree murder related to his wife’s death.
Police responded to a 911 call on Thursday at approximately 7:30 p.m., which expressed concerns about the welfare of a resident on Brookside Avenue. Upon arrival, they found Alyne Espinal deceased from multiple stab wounds within the Somerville apartment.
The investigation is ongoing. The Prosecutor’s Office has stated that they are conducting interviews with witnesses and examining both physical and electronic evidence, along with forensic analysis, as part of their preliminary inquiry.
Ignacio Espinal is confronted with charges that include first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and third-degree hindering apprehension or prosecution.
