Kenneth Walker III is proving to be an exceptional asset for the Kansas City Chiefs following his trade from the Seattle Seahawks. His performance is exceeding expectations and contributing significantly to the team’s success.
In the first four games of the season, Walker has rushed for 537 yards, leading the NFL by a margin of over 100 yards. This impressive figure has set a new franchise record for the Chiefs, breaking the previous record for rushing yards accumulated between Week 1 to Week 4. This achievement is remarkable, especially given the Chiefs’ history of legendary running backs.
The NFL hasn’t seen a running back reach this milestone in the first four weeks since DeMarco Murray in 2014, who coincidentally is now the Chiefs’ running backs coach. Walker’s performance this season has positioned him as a potential candidate to become only the 10th running back in NFL history to surpass 2,000 rushing yards in a single season. He is also in contention to break Eric Dickerson’s all-time single-season record of 2,105 rushing yards.
Last season, Walker achieved 1,027 yards, and he is already more than halfway to surpassing his personal best. His current streak includes 14 consecutive wins, dating back to November 23 when he was with the Seahawks, the reigning Super Bowl champions. The Chiefs are also maintaining an unbeaten record this season, standing at 4-0.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes continues to benefit from Walker’s performance. With injuries to key wide receivers Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton during the recent game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Walker’s role is even more crucial. The Chiefs will use their upcoming bye week to regroup and address these injuries.
In the game against the Raiders, despite the injuries to his teammates, Walker excelled by carrying the ball 22 times for 177 yards and scoring two touchdowns. This performance was his best statistical game of the season, solidifying his place in franchise history.
