House Rebuke Over Iran Conflict
The House of Representatives has taken a significant step by passing a Democratic-led measure opposing President Donald Trump’s military actions in Iran. This marks an uncommon disagreement with the president, as some Republicans are concerned it could impede the U.S.’s ability to secure a nuclear agreement.
The resolution passed with a vote of 215-208, where four Republicans sided with the Democrats. This resolution directs the president to withdraw U.S. armed forces from hostilities with Iran unless Congress explicitly authorizes military action. Although symbolic, this vote criticizes the ongoing conflict.
Earlier, attempts to pass such a resolution faced rejection, making this a notable development. The vote also boosts efforts on the Senate’s version, which has yet to reach a final vote.
Student Supports Fired CBS Journalist
A student who publicly called out CBS leadership at the Emmys recently supported former “60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley after his dismissal. Santiago Campos praised Pelley for speaking against CBS’s internal decisions.
Campos, who received a scholarship from CBS News, used his award speech to criticize corporate influence in media. Pelley, agreeing with these sentiments, was let go shortly after voicing concerns over executive hiring decisions. CBS declined to further address Pelely’s firing publicly.
Flesh-Eating Parasite Threatens U.S. Livestock
A case of New World screwworm has been identified in Texas, raising alarms about potential impacts on the cattle industry. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins confirmed the parasite’s presence in a young calf near the Mexico border.
The larvae of the parasite consume living tissue from warm-blooded animals. Although considered rare in humans and pets, a wider outbreak could economically strain the livestock sector, pushing up already high beef prices. It’s the first confirmed case since 1966 in the U.S.
