The advocacy group Protect Our Care has highlighted actions by 29 House Republicans. These lawmakers, according to the group, have caused severe impacts in their districts by supporting healthcare spending cuts. Fact sheets shared with The Hill reveal that these cuts affect Medicaid, amounting to a $1 trillion reduction.

In Pennsylvania’s 1st congressional district, five healthcare facilities have cut services or closed. Furthermore, premiums for ACA tax credit recipients have surged over 200% in this area. Brad Woodhouse, President of Protect Our Care, criticized these lawmakers for prioritizing wealthy individuals and corporations over ordinary citizens. He emphasized the struggles faced by millions who lose coverage and experience rising premiums and longer travel for medical care.

The targeted Republican representatives include Jeff Hurd (Colo.), Lauren Boebert (Colo.), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (Iowa), Zach Nunn (Iowa), among others.

Healthcare Costs Remain a Key Voter Concern

Polling in recent cycles reveals that healthcare costs continue to be a top concern for voters. Historically, Democrats have had an advantage over Republicans on healthcare issues. A July Pew Research poll confirms that Democrats are favored for their healthcare policies.

Rising Employer Health Benefits Expected

According to Mercer, employer health benefits costs are expected to increase significantly next year. Their projections indicate an 8.2% rise in costs by 2027 due to continuous cost challenges and expensive new therapeutics. This marks the largest increase in over two decades.
