1 hour ago 0

A shooting took place at Warner Robins High School in Georgia, leaving one student injured and a teenage suspect later captured by police. The incident involved two ninth-grade students and occurred shortly after the new school year began, drawing a significant law enforcement response. Warner Robins is approximately 102 miles southeast of Atlanta.

Houston County Sheriff Matt Moulton addressed the media, explaining that the situation stemmed from an altercation in a school bathroom. It escalated into a shooting at 2:15 p.m., during which one student was wounded. The injured student received prompt medical attention and was hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries.

A school resource officer arrived quickly, administering first aid until emergency personnel arrived. An hour later, authorities apprehended the suspect without further issues, approximately half a mile from the school.

Sheriff Moulton commended all involved, noting that, “The school threat protocol and our training was followed perfectly today.” This minimized the potential damage, with only one student being injured.

In response to the event, Houston County Schools Superintendent Richard Rogers announced the school would close on Thursday and Friday. Staff and students will have access to crisis counselors: staff on Friday and students on Monday. “We’re going to focus on healing,” Rogers stated.
