Joseph Sawyer, formerly known as Joe Gacy in WWE, returned to Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) with a memorable performance. The event, Homecoming Night 1, took place at the Showboat Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
In a bloody contest, Sawyer defeated Atticus Cogar to win the GCW World Championship. This victory marked Sawyer’s first match in GCW since 2020, when he competed as Psycho Joe.
“What a f—ing Homecoming,” Sawyer told the crowd after securing his championship win.
The match with Cogar included brutal chair shots and scenes of Cogar being pushed against a door placed in the ring’s corner. The night also honored the late Bray Wyatt. Cogar paid tribute to the former WWE star with his entrance music and attire.
Sawyer employed a Sister Abigail DDT to defeat Cogar, driving the audience at Showboat into a frenzy as they celebrated his win.
In another intense match, Otis Cogar retained the GCW Ultraviolent Championship against Anakin Murphy. Murphy, donning gear inspired by Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance, put up a big fight. Despite using a fan’s Buffalo Bills helmet as a weapon, Murphy could not overcome Cogar’s fierce offense.
Another notable match was the brutal Chola Chain Match between Vipress and Christian Napier. Linked by a chain, the bout saw Vipress gain control after Napier got tangled in ropes. She used light tubes to finish Napier, securing the victory with a chain-clad face assault.
Elsewhere, a six-man deathmatch ended with Nick Gage, Nino Extremo, and Sicko The Clown defeating Conor Claxton, Dr. Redacted, and Jimmy Lloyd. An intense moment occurred when Sicko The Clown delivered a dramatic move through light tubes, leading to Claxton’s hospitalization.
Tag team competition saw KJ Orso and Sam Stackhouse triumph over Alec Price and Jordan Oliver to claim the GCW tag team titles. Additionally, Bobby Flaco, Hunter Drake, Jay Lucas, and Terry Yaki won their eight-man tag match.
Joey Janela postponed retirement by defeating Marko Stunt, assisted by Ryan O’Neill. Bear Bronson and Gabby Forza achieved victory against Charles Mason and Slade.
GCW Homecoming Night 2 will be hosted again at the Showboat, accessible to fans through Triller TV+.
