An incident unfolded at a Portland, Oregon high school football game when a Jefferson High School player clashed with an opponent who carried an American flag onto the field. Despite attempts to gather information, Jefferson High School, along with its Athletic Director Donnie Siel and Principal Drake Shelton, have not provided answers.
The Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) acknowledged awareness of the incident. The player involved was ejected and did not participate in the game. OSAA emphasized that behavior like this is unacceptable in school sports.
The primary question remains whether the Grant High School player was targeted for carrying the flag. Jefferson High School has not clarified the situation, and their football team’s Instagram page has been deleted. Screenshots saved by Taren Feist, an Oregon campaign manager, offer limited insight.
The Jefferson Instagram page, before deletion, claimed the video was not meant to disrespect the flag. It insisted that Grant players and staff showed disrespect towards Jefferson before the game. The post stated there were options to avoid the situation, highlighting the game’s significance as Jefferson’s last on their field and a homecoming event for seniors.
The Instagram statement read, “You will not use this situation as an excuse to be racist toward my students, my players, our staff, or anyone who represents Jefferson.”
Despite the controversy, Grant High School won the game 35-14, raising questions about motivations behind the incident. Joe Kinsey from OutKick has been following the story, keen to uncover more details surrounding the events.
